MANDARINS
The Sicilian productions of mandarins are highly prized: the Villari Group selects Sicilian mandarins belonging to the Common or Avana and Tardivo di Ciaculli varieties, grown in ranges with a strong vocation for this fruit.
Their rounded shape is characterised by a very thin peel, light orange and very fragrant. The pulp, composed of many small segments, is very juicy and sweet. Ripening times are from December to mid-January. Mandarins provide a significant energy supply and are highly appreciated by athletes.
TARDIVO DI CIACULLI MANDARIN
Its name originates from the village where it was discovered (Ciaculli, in the province of Palermo) and from the ripening period, later than the Common varieties. The strong aroma, the sugar content and the thin peel make Tardivo di Ciaculli a mandarin with a unique and unmistakable taste. Its cultivation is widespread in the hilly terrain near the outskirts of Palermo, in a very characteristic area called “Conca d’Oro”.
COMMON OR AVANA MANDARIN
It is the most traditional, aromatic and fragrant of the mandarins available on the market: it is harvested mainly between December and January and stands out for the sweetness and quantity of its juice. Characterised by an orange-yellow colour, it is slightly flat at the poles and very easy to peel by virtue of the thin peel that is attached to the pulp only slightly, a pulp that is juicy and with a sweet and aromatic taste. The crop is widespread in the hilly terrain close to the Sicilian Ionian belt between Roccalumera (ME) and Acireale (CT).
